Ion Beam Nanopatterning of Biomaterial Surfaces

چکیده
Ion beam irradiation of solid surfaces may result in the self-organized formation well-defined topographic nanopatterns. Depending on conditions and material properties, isotropic or anisotropic patterns differently shaped features be obtained. Most intriguingly, periodicities these can adjusted range between less than twenty several hundred nanometers, which covers dimensions many cellular extracellular features. However, even though ion nanopatterning has been studied for decades is nowadays widely employed fabrication functional surfaces, it found its way into biomaterials field only recently. This review provides a brief overview basics nanopatterning, emphasizes aspects particular relevance applications, summarizes number recent studies that investigated effects such nanopatterned adsorption biomolecules response adhering cells. Finally, promising future directions potential translational challenges are identified.

متن کاملRipple coarsening on ion beam-eroded surfaces
The temporal evolution of ripple pattern on Ge, Si, Al 2 O 3, and SiO 2 by low-energy ion beam erosion with Xe (+) ions is studied. The experiments focus on the ripple dynamics in a fluence range from 1.1 × 10(17) cm(-2) to 1.3 × 10(19) cm(-2) at ion incidence angles of 65° and 75° and ion energies of 600 and 1,200 eV. At low fluences a short-wavelength ripple structure emerges on the surface t...

متن کاملAlbumin Affinity Biomaterial Surfaces
Recently, considerable progress has been made in designing biomaterial surfaces which possess enhanced albumin affinity. Two derivatization methods for producing albumin binding biomaterial surfaces, based on an albumin affinity dye, cibacron blue, have been developed. Both surface derivatization methods were found to enhance the binding of albumin to an implant grade polyetherurethane. Evaluat...
متن کاملSelective Binding, Self-Assembly and Nanopatterning of the Creutz-Taube Ion on Surfaces
The surface attachment properties of the Creutz-Taube ion, i.e., [(NH(3))(5)Ru(pyrazine)Ru(NH(3))(5)](5+), on both hydrophilic and hydrophobic types of surfaces were investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results indicated that the Creutz-Taube ions only bound to hydrophilic surfaces, such as SiO(2) and -OH terminated organic SAMs on gold substrates. No attachment of the...
